Sara Ponticorvo earned a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Naples "Federico II" in 2016 with a thesis on novel technique of myelin mapping with MRI. She continued working on her thesis project after the degree for a year at the University of Salerno increasing her skills on multiparametric quantitative MRI. She is currently enrolled in the PhD in translation medicine at the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry, "Scuola Medica Salernitana" at the University of Salerno with a project entitled "The effects of the continuous usage of hearing aids on morphological and functional brain properties in patients with hearing deficits: a magnetic resonance imaging study". In the context of her PhD, she is working on multiple parameters of MRI, with a special focus on morphological and quantitative metabolic tracer in auditory cortex in age-related hearing loss. Moreover, she is also interested in brain studies on rare diseases, with special focusing on quantitative MRI techniques applied in in beta-thalassemia and atypical parkinsonism. From April 2019 she moved to the Centre for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) in Minneapolis, MN, US, as an exchange student of the European RISE project. The aim of this project will be to study quantitative techniques for microstructural characterization of the human brain in healthy and pathological condition.
